TOULON - Ruth F. Whittaker, 91, of Toulon died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5,
2002, at Toulon Health Care Center.
Born July 19, 1911, in Osceola Township, Stark County, to Harve and Dora
Carlburg Benedict, she married Clifford L. Whittaker on Nov. 2, 1935, in Benton.
He died Oct. 20, 1979, in Kewanee.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Vanessa (and Robert) Packard of Carpentersville;
three sons, Gregory (and Wanda) of Scranton, Kan., Gordon (and Dian) of Toulon
and Roger (and Marlene) of Redding, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 14
She worked as a clerk for the Kroger store in Toulon for many years, for
Stark County News and later for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., in Peoria. She
and her husband also farmed west of Toulon for many years.
She was a member of Stark County Historical Society and served on the board
of directors. She was a member of Stark County Home Extension and Toulon
American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Toulon, where she served
on many committees.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at her church. The Rev. Wayne
McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at DeBolt-Kidd
Funeral Home. Cremation has been accorded, and burial of ashes will be in Toulon
Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to her church or Stark County Historical Society.
