We use this means to inform our dear relatives and friends here and in Ostfriesland that our dear brother in the Lord, Johann Roelfs Rewerts, has died after a short illness near Castleton, Illinois.  He died on May 27, 1897 at the age of 65 years, 5 months and 11 days.  He was born in Ochtelbur, near Aurich, in Ostfriesland.

He leaves behind his wife, Fentje Westermann, with whom he enjoyed 40 years of happy marriage.  He is also survived by three children, Himke, Harm and Roelf.  One son died in infancy and a daughter at 13 years of age.

His parents were Roelf Jacob Rewerts and Himke (Janssen Harms).  They died in Illinois.  He is also survived by 3 sisters, a brother, Jacob. One sister, Tatje, lives in Benson and the other two sisters live in Nebraska.

He came to America in 1855.  He first lived in Peoria for 5 years and then near Dunlap for 22 years and then in our village of Castleton.

He died on the Day of Ascention.  It is our strong belief and hope that the Lord is now fulfilling all his promises to him.
