Toulon John F. Phillips, 78, of 225 W. Thomas died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at his home.

Born May 10, 1919,in rural Wyoming to John G. and Cora I. Delphy Phillips, he married Marjorie A. Peterson on May 11, 1952, in Wyoming. She survives him.

Also surviving are one daughter, Joann Mendell of Peoria; one sister, Dorothy Funderburg of Chadwick; one brother, Donald of Galva; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a sergeant. He was wounded at St. Marie Glias during the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart.

He worked in maintenance and transportation at Toulon Grade Scholl for 24 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the 82nd Airborne Division Association. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Toulon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Debolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon. The Rev. Harry Losey will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Kewanee.
