Of Duncan Area Dies In South Dakota Aug. 30
Funeral services for
Mrs. Ethel Chaffee Lanctot were held Tuesday, September 4, in the
Beherns Mortuary in Rapid City, S. D. Rev. Carl Locke officiated at the
at the service. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery.
the daughter of George and Sarah Rennick Chaffee, was born on a farm
near Duncan February 20, 1883 and died August 30 in New Underwood
hospital from a heart attack. She grew to womanhood in her home near
Duncan and attended the Schiebel and Wyoming schools. She became a
successful teacher in Stark and Peoria counties.
In 1910 she
homesteaded in Wasta, S. D., where she also taught school. In 1918 she
came home to assist in the care of her invalid mother.
She was united
in marriage February 1921 to Wilfred J Lanctot of Owanka, S. D. in
Peoria. To this union a daughter Maxine, now Mrs. Jay Frenzer, was born.
Her entire married life was spent on a ranch between Owanka and New
Underwood, S. D.
Surviving are the husband; the daughter Maxine; a 2
½ month old granddaughter Donna Ethel; two brothers, Jarville Chaffee of
Peoria and Percy Chaffee of Wyoming; two nieces, Mrs. Everett Gallup of
Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. James Gordon of Seattle, Wash.; and two
nephews, Forrest Chaffee of Chicago and George Chaffee of Peoria.
