PONTIAC - Dorothy Adele Ham, 81, of Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac, formerly of Toulon, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.

Born June 9, 1922, in Cropsey to Walter A. and Cornelia Balcke Elliott, she married Clyde C. Ham on June 10, 1948, in Cropsey. He died May 7, 2000, in Toulon.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louise Turnage of Pittsburg; and three brothers, Dr. Ralph Elliott of Atlanta, Ga., Paul Elliott of Chenoa, and Harold Elliott of Bloomington.

Survivors include one son, Carl C. (Becky) Ham of Pontiac; three grandsons, Eric (Nancie) Ham of Peoria and Joel Ham and Jeremy Ham, both of Pontiac; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Ham and Alivia Ham, both of Peoria; two nephews; and eight nieces.

She graduated from Cropsey High School in 1940. She was a graduate of Illinois State Normal University in 1944 and received her master's degree from ISU in 1972.

She was a Home Economics teacher at Toulon Township High School in Toulon from 1945 to 1953. She last worked as the Stark County Home Economics Advisor for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service in Toulon from 1957 to 1983.

She received numerous awards, which include the Illinois Association of Home Economics PEER Award in 1982 and the National Association of Home Economics Distinguished Service Award in 1968.

She was a past member of the Epsilon Sigma Phi, National Honorary Extension Fraternity and the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Society, both at the University of Illinois. She was a past member of the Toulon Women's Club for 45 years, the Toulon American Legion Auxiliary, the Stark and Henry County American Cancer Society Board. She also was a past board member of the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Central Illinois Council on Aging, and the Central Illinois American Cancer Society.

She attended United Methodist Church of Toulon.

A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Toulon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon.
