Thomas Armstrong of Pre-emption, Mercer County died Monday at Grinnell , Iowa vhere he was attending thr funeral of his brother's wife. His brother, Foster Armstrong, and daughter Anna had gone with hin. Burial was Tuesday near Pre-enption. He had been a resident of Bowling tnp for 40 years, lie Is survived by his wife and 4 daughters: Mrs. Lipton, Mrs. Janes Schroeder of Pre-emption; Mrs. James Connelly of Farmington, Ills; and Miss Anna at home; and also by 3 brothers and 3 sisters: John Armstrong of Burlinpton, Kansas; Foster Armstrong of Pre-enption; Archie Armstrong of Grinnell, Iowa; Mrs. Lizzie Fredricksen of Viola, Kansas; Mrs. F. Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. Allely of Iowa. (October 22nd issue: the funeral was Thursday with burial in the Wood's burying ground.)


28 May 1903

Charles Fall, a coal miner at Sherrard, Mercer County drowned Saturday in the Edwards River at Cable. The funeral was Sunday at Sherrard.


18 June 1903

The funeral of John Clark who died last Wednesday was Saturday at the Methodist Church In Pre-emption, Mercer County with burial in the Pre-emption Cemetery

16 Oct. 1902

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Park who lived on a farm near Viola, Mercer County died recently. Mr. Park died October 10th and his wife 2 weeks before. They are survived by 5 children 4 girls and a boy, all married. They were members of the Presbyterian Church.

12 June 1902

Miss Anna Samuelson died Sunday aged 20 years.The funeral was Tuesday with burial at Swedona, Mercer County .

12 March 1903

Wm L. Ramsey, a Mercer County farmer, was found dead Thursday at the depot hotel in Monmouth, Warren County . He is survived by his wife and 4 daughters.


11 February 1904

Ashley Swathouse, aged 19 years, shot himself on Wednesday at his home near Hamlet, Mercer County . (February 25th issue: the funerwal was at the Presbyterian Church with burial in the Hamlet Cemetery . He is survived by his father, 2 brothers and 1 sister. His mother died some years ago.)

16 Oct. 1902

Mrs. Richard Dawson died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.Schroeder, 1319 2nd Avenue , Rock Island . She was formerly a resident of Coal Valley and then of Cable, Mercer County . The funeral will be Friday with burial in Rock Island 's Chippiannock Cemetery .


April 1902.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Robinson and George Clark attended the funeral of Samuel Robinson of Viola, Mercer County on Friday.

11 February 1904

Mrs. Henry Wilson, nee Miss Emma Hoefle, died February 9th at her home, 1 mile north of Pre-emption. The funeral was Thursday with burial in the Little Cemetery beside her infant daughter who died a week ago. She married Mr. Wilson in March, 1902 and was aged 22 years. She is survived by her husband, her parents - Mr. and Mrs. George Hoefle of Sherrard; and by 4 brothers - George, Fred, Chas. and Paul Hoefle; and by 3 sisters: Mrs. Mary Johnson of Cable, fiercer County; Mrs. N.W. Vanderslice of Milan and Kate Hoefle at home.

19 January 1905

Mrs. Wm Crawford died today at her home in Pre-emption, Mercer County aged 49 years. She was born in Moline and was married there in 1875. She has been a resident of Pre-emption for 6 years. 8 children survive - all at home except one.

Thursday, 16 March 1905

Zora, 1 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Davis died Saturday at Roden, Mercer County after drinking poison. The funeral was Monday with burial in the Boden Cemetery . Mrs. Davis is the former Miss Sadie Brasher, daughter of John Brasher. She formerly lived east of the campgrounds.

Thursday, 6 July 1905

Joseph Pitman died Monday at his home near Pre-emption, Mercer County aged 86 years. He has resided near Pre-emption for the past 50 years; he was a farmer. The funeral was Thursday with burial in the Boden Cemetery .

The funeral of the late Henry C. Brunswig on Tuesday from the home at the rear of the Cable grounds, 5th Avenue and 29th Street , Rock Island and at the Evangelical Lutheran Church was this week with burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery .
