OBITUARY

Funeral services for Elmer J Lipton, 68, were held in the Preemption church, Sunday afternoon, Oct 22, 1950 at 2:30. Rev Harold Brack, student pastor and Rev Roy Stocking of Sunbeam, a former pastor, conducted the service. Clarence Clarke sang and was accompanied by Melvin Larson of Viola. Mrs Florence McCaw, Mrs Albert Swicker, Mrs R W Ash Sr, Mrs Glenn Moffitt and Miss Violet Groves had charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Marion Doonan, Bruce Robbins, Glenn Moffitt, Glenn Grover, Earl Sude and Wayne Spengler.

Elmer J Lipton, son of George and Bessie Johnston Lipton was born on the Lipton homestead one mile east of Preemption on April 16, 1882 and died Oct 19, 1950. He was educated in the Preemption schools and graduated from Reynolds High School. He was married to Olive Burrows Dec 31, 1912. Besides general farming, Mr Lipton specialized in Duroc hogs and held large sales on his farm until recent years. He was a charter member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau, a director of the Mercer County Fair Association and a member of the executive board of the Methodist church. Besides his widow, he is survived by two sisters, Miss Laura Lipton of Aledo and Mrs F E Sudlow of Rock Island, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers. Larson Funeral home of Milan was in charge.
