Michael Wetzel


Michael Scott Wetzel died on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at the Tucson Medical Center Hospice in Tucson, AZ.

He was born on March 12, 1959 in Macomb, Illinois to Alan and Peg (McLaughlin) Wetzel, and grew up in Colchester. On May, 1992, he married Marcela Lopez of Nogales, Son., Mexico. They divorced in 2001.

He is survived by two daughters, Hali and Chloe Wetzel of Tucson, Ariz; his parents; two sisters, Cynthia Wetzel of Tucson, Ariz., and Laura (James) Cech; as well as 9 nieces and nephews and many cousins, friends, and neighbors.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerald and Genevieve Wetzel.

Mr. Wetzel graduated from Colchester High School in 1977 and received his formal education at the University of Arizona where he was employed for 18 years before his medical retirement in 2003.

In late 2001, Mr. Wetzel was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a terminal illness. His entire family moved to Tucson, Arizona to care for him and to be with him during his last four years of life. His daughters were ages 9 (Hali) and 11(Chloe) when he passed away.

He was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church of Tucson Arizona where memorial services were held on Saturday, July 2 at 11am. His ashes reside in the memorial garden of Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
