Irvin G. Wetzel,
77, who roomed at the Loretta Eastin rooming
house at 526 W. McDonough Street, died suddenly
about two o’clock this morning. He had been in
good health lately but was stricken about 1:30
o’clock this morning. At that time he awakened
and complained that he was short of breath. He
died within a few minutes. Coroner Jake Davis
will conduct an inquest at eight o’clock tonight
at the Dodsworth-Piper Funeral Home.
Burial will be at
the Harris Cemetery, but other funeral
arrangements are incomplete. Friends may call at
the funeral home prior to services.
Wetzel was a son of
John and Margaret (Graves) Wetzel, now deceased,
and was born May 16, 1868 in New Salem Township
of this county. He spent his entire life in
McDonough County, except for 11 years in
Arkansas. He was a farmer by occupation. He came
to this city in 1928. He was married to Lizzie
Leighty, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a
son, John Wetzel, who is in the army and now
stationed in California. Two brothers, George
and Allen Wetzel, and a sister, Mrs. Frank
Toland, predeceased him.
(For clarification,
Lizzie Leighty was Elizabeth Leighty. She and
Irvin had four children, Isaac Howard, Edith E.,
and an infant son who lived three days. John
Howard was the only child who survived to
adulthood.)
