Gertrude Wetzel,
95, of Colchester, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday,
March 30, 1994 at the Elms Nursing Home in
Macomb where she was residing.
She was born Oct.
30, 1898 in Colchester to Andrew and Effie (Stookey)
Carson. She married Harry Wetzel June 5, 1921 at
Macomb. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1974.
She is survived by
13 children, Harriet Cordell of Colchester,
Doris Vance of Westphalia, Kans., Andrew Wetzel
of Warsaw, Dick Wetzel of Galesburg, Lillian
Webb of Atlanta, Ill., Conrad of Tiskilwa,
Glenna Purdy of Colchester, Eldon Wetzel of
Macomb, Jack Wetzel of Aiken, S.C., Jean Horney
of Macomb,, Luan Steiner of Englewood, Colo.,
Karen Dean and Joe Wetzel, both of Colchester;
56 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; and 10
great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers,
Otis Carson of Zephyr Hills, Fla. and Carl
Carson of Carthage.
She was also
preceded in death by one son, Burdette Wetzel;
and six brothers, Roy, A. Z., Pete, Jake, George
and Doc Carson; and her parents.
Mrs. Wetzel had
lived her earlier life in Kendrick, Idaho for
seven years and later near Tennessee, Ill. She
was a homemaker and had attended Carson School
and the South Fulton Dunkard Brethren church in
Astoria.
Services are 11 a.m.
Saturday at the Colchester United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Clinton Kessler Jr. and the
Rev. Ron Bricker officiating. Burial will be in
Dunkard Cemetery.
Friends may call
after 8 a.m. Friday and until time of services
Saturday at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester
where the family will meet friends fro 6 to 9
p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be
made to the Torrean Navajo Indian Mission of the
staff at the Elms Nursing Home.
