Macomb- Gerald
Wetzel, 80, of Macomb died at 7:18 a.m.
Thursday at his home.
Born Apr. 8, 1908,
near Table Grove to Allen and Anna May Foster
Wetzel, he married Genevieve Pollack Jan. 28,
1934 in Macomb. His wife survives along with one
son, Alan of Liberal, Kansas’ three daughters,
Mrs. Norman (Janice) Leonard of Pompano Beach,
Fla., Mrs. Geraldine Zerse of Omaha, and Mrs.
Marion (Annette) Reed of Sheridan, Wyo.; 10
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Mrs. George (Maxine) Mayes of Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla. Three brothers and five sisters
have preceded him in death. A long time resident
of Macomb, where he worked for the fire
department, he had been fire chief at Camp
Ellis, training fire officers for the military.
He also had farmed and been a painter at Western
Illinois University for 20 years. He was a
charter member of the WIU Museum and a 65 year
member of the Macomb First Presbyterian Church.
Services will be at
2 p.m. Sunday at his church with the Revs.
Kenneth Mortonson and Cheryl Colt officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the
funeral home.

made to his church or the WIU Museum.
