Genevieve Wetzel

 

Colchester-Genevieve P. Wetzel, 88, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of Macomb, died January 10, 2001at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Macomb Township to George W. and Cora Jane (Spear) Pollock. She married Gerald Wetzel on Jan. 26, 1934, In Macomb. He died Oct. 26, 1988.

She is survived by one son, Alan (Peg) Wetzel of Oklahoma City, Okla., three daughters, Janice (Norman) Leonard of Pompano Beach, Fla., Gerry Zerse of Omaha, Neb., and Annette (Marion) Reed of Sheridan, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Pollock of Rushville; one sister, Mary (Bill) Fyfe of Woodstock; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ralph Pollock.

Mrs. Wetzel graduated from Country School, Western Academy and Western Illinois University, where she received her masters degree.

She taught in the Macomb area schools including one room schools. She taught in Bardolph Elementary, Good Hope and Northwestern High Schools.

She was instrumental in the establishment of area Senior Citizens programs and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Macomb, Modern Mothers Club, Pro Sew Club, McDonough County Retired Teachers, Western Illinois University Museum and the Macomb Historical Society.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Macomb First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. W. E. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.

Friends may call at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester after 8 a.m. Monday, until 9 a.m. Tuesday, then at the church until the time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Women of the Macomb First Presbyterian Church.

Jone's Mortuary in Colchester is in charge of the arrangements.
