My name is Rodney Vance Ranney. I would like to comment on the Morsetown Cemetery. It says aka Morris Town Cemetery.

I am 81, and as a kid from 4 yrs of age to 11 yrs of age, my brother Burton Eugene Ranney and I walked from our farm home north of that cemetery, past that cemetery to the Morsetown Public School, District 42. We did that day in and day out for 7 years. There used to be a Plaque in front on the road that said "MORSETOWN CEMETERY". The reason for that is that it was named after the family MORSE who along with the early Ranney's created the cemetery.

Parker MORSE came to Woodford county in 1835. The family first settled in the vicinity of what later became Low Point, but in a short time they moved a mile south of the present site of Cazenovia, in Metamora Township. There were several members of the family and the vicinity soon became known as MORSE SETTLEMENT. Levi P. Morse was but 15 years of age when he came through with his father to Illinois, but he drove a team the entire distance from Vermont. Other members of family were Joseph??? The MORSE family prominently connected with the work of the underground railroad.

The name "Morris town" is nothing more than a phonetic misspelling of the true name MORSETOWN.

The Morsetown Cemetery abutted the front yard of John Voelker Sr. farm house. Junior Voelker was 2 yrs older than me (same age as my brother.) When Sr. died, Jr. took over the farm, and both Sr. and then Jr. were paid to maintain the Cemetery. Jr. retired and moved to Metamora. I talked to him a couple of years ago, but don't know if he is still living now.
