John B Wood I was born 1798 in Moravia, Cayuga County, NY the son of Dr. Daniel Wood. He married Ann/Anna Maria in about 1825 in New York and they had 11 children, including the 4 children buried with them. Wood came west from New York in 1818 and is recognized for founding the city of Quincy, IL in 1822. He was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 1856 and became Governor in 1860 upon the death of elected Governor William Henry Bissell, serving the rest of his term. He was the Colonel of the 137th IL Infantry Regiment in 1864 during the Civil War.
